Kickstarter Update #2

We have some exciting Kickstarter news. Abigail and I got together last Friday and made some great plans for our entire project. Using the method of the five W's (and one H) we came up with some solid plans and goals for what we'll do and when we'll do them. Go down below the break to see a more detailed list of what we'll be doing and some helpful info on for how to start a Kickstarter.

So, as we continue to plan and plot our goals for this Kickstarter project, I thought it'd be a good idea to share my insight on the inner workings of planning a Kickstarter project in detail, in order to help those who might feel a little lost and confused in how everything works. Here are some of the things that have really helped me so far and will hopefully help you should you choose to do your own project.

Make a Checklist

Making a checklist will help keep thing neat and organized. And you get the satisfying feeling of getting things done as you check things off and come closer to your goal.
Here's the checklist I made:

Nothing to fancy, but it gets the job done. You can also see that I've put notes next to certain things, such as, on #3 I put the photographer that I want, and #2 has a goal for the video length. Little notes like these and help clarify down the road what your thoughts were at the time and give little goals for your project.

Use the 5 W's (and one H)

This one was super helpful to me! One day, I was feeling really frustrated that I couldn't make solid plans about what I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it. There are so many different ways to do things and I was a frazzled and confused on how I wanted my project to go. Then it hit me! Use the five W's!  Sometimes referred to the six W's, the classic  Who? What? When? Where? How? Why? questions helped me to pick one thing for each question and go with it. Below is our list of W's for the video:

I just used the notes app on my phone to write down the W's and our answers to them. We literally just sat there on the couch talking about it. It doesn't have to be big and it dosen't have to be fancy, but it does have to be smart. Use the 5 W's (and one H) in all different aspects of your project as well as for your entire project. Who will be there? What do you have to do? What will you do? When will you do it? Where will you do it? How will you do it? Why are you doing it? These simple questions will help you find the root reason for doing what you're doing and help to set firm goals for your project.

A Hard Deadline

Having a hard deadline for your project is crucial for it to succeed. If you don't have a hard and fast goal for when to launch your project you'll find yourself delaying on getting it out over and over and over again. Trust me I know, because technically we've been planning this Kickstarter for over two years, but until recently we haven't really had good planning techniques (or maturity really) to get it done. So yeah, having a hard deadline will really help to speed up the process and make you push to get things done. After doing some research we are happy to announce that July 3 is our planned date to go live!!
